Comments on: Viruses and Malware on Windows http://atlanticlinux.ie/blog/viruses-and-malware-on-windows/ Thoughts on running an Irish Linux business Wed, 21 Sep 2011 09:07:18 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.5.1 By: Paul http://atlanticlinux.ie/blog/viruses-and-malware-on-windows/comment-page-1/#comment-56 Wed, 04 Feb 2009 05:16:08 +0000 http://www.atlanticlinux.ie/blog/?p=37#comment-56 I think the craziest thing about spyware and malware is that in Windows 2000, Microsoft actually put the Alexa toolbar in the operating system, then taught people how to date mine from their OS. Microsoft actually started this, of course with the greatest of intentions, teaching their “partners” how to use your habits to make $$. Just goes to show that the road to Hell really is paved with good intentions. I’ve since moved over to Linux myself – Ubuntu – which I love, and I don’t worry about spyware/malware/viruses/trojans/rootkits, etc. I run a limited amount of MS software, and always in a virtual machine. Kind of like “disposable” Windows, or wash and wear. I snapshot it and rollback what I don’t like. 🙂

Although I type this comment on a Macbook using Firefox, I generally use a Linux desktop so the worst thing you can do is be smug because you’ll let your guard down.

Anyway, I think my card was stolen the old fashioned way, in a retail location, not online ..
