Thanks for dropping by and thanks for the tip. Yes, blacklisting would work. I’ve since reinstalled these servers with 10.04 and Debian Squeeze without the problem occuring so I think it may have been a kernel bug anyway.

An alternative solution is to blacklist the module (they won’t be loaded at boot) by adding it to the following file:

/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
